Well, we had a great Christmas Raffle Night. A packed Club saw a very popular winner of our top prize, an all-singing and all-dancing telly which went to Scally. Dave Elliff somehow scooped three prizes and Messrs Redmore and Price once again failed to win a port and stilton hamper. Many thanks to Matt and Kirsten for all their efforts organising the day and to Aaron for somehow getting through his compere job without offending anyone – retaining his cultural attache title a little longer.
Over the holidays, please check in the Club for our Christmas hours – we are opening at Noon on a number of days. We’ll be open normally on Christmas Eve, which is a Sunday of course, when we’ll be playing music. On New Year’s Eve, as many will know, we lost our original booking for the night and sadly it happened at a time that was too late for us to find a replacement. Vince Elphick has kindly offered to fill the gap by acting as a spotify DJ, playing requests from Club members and their guests. All you have to do is turn up and ask for your favourite tune. It can be anything you want, as long as it can be found on the Net – your chair is currently thinking of Men of Harlech, as rendered in the film Zulu, followed by Lynnyrrd Skynyrd’s Freebird (full version). And of course New Year’s Eve is free in the Club – you won’t need to pay a penny to get in. If you’re very lucky, there will also be some special quizzes for you to have a go at as well.
And of course we’ll have plenty for you to do over the holidays, with loads of great sport on the TVs – of which more later in the week – and a Christmas Special Tipsters competition that you can enter. Neil Janes has set up a one-off Christmas Tipsters that runs from Boxing Day through to the end of New Year’s Eve. For the princely sum of a fiver, you get to predict 20 results in the Premiership, the number of goals scored in those games, answer 10 easy questions and predict the four top scorers from those games. That fiver puts you into a competition to win as much as £50, if the numbers are right and will also hopefully raise a load of cash for Help for Heroes, so please give it a go. Answer sheets can be obtained from behind the bar or you can use the attached version and you need to have your sheet in by Noon on Boxing Day.
Finally, what are we showing on our TVs this week? Well its a quiet week for sports because the players like to have some time for Christmas shopping. So, tonight we’re showing the Everton-Swansea game on Sky, which started at 9pm, and on Friday night we have a game for the Premiership also-rans with Arsenal taking on Liverpool at 7.45pm on Sky.
Finally, please can the golfers that signed up for Friday’s turkey trot cough up asap now – we’re burning a large hole in someone’s bank account at just the wrong time of year, and please get your memberships renewed sharpish.big
