Well, sadly it wasn’t to be and we won’t be showing England in the biggest World Cup game this coming weekend. But we will be cheering them on when they play their third place play-off against Belgium at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. They did us proud in this World Cup and, whatever team the manager puts out, we’ll be cheering them on.
And then on Sunday we’ll be showing the World Cup between France and Croatia. That kicks off at 4pm.
Sadly we won’t be breaking out the barbie this weekend, because our chefs need a rest after a frantic few weeks. Heart-felt thanks are offered to Matt and Kirsten Redmore, Graham Simmons and Shirl Burgess and to Aaron and Kerry Adamson for their efforts on our behalf. Thanks also to all their helpers, especially Dave Eliff and Kelly Foley. And please don’t forget our fantastic bar staff, who have worked like stink all the way through.
The efforts everybody put in contributed to what’s been a great few weeks for the Club and we can’t thank you all enough for your support. We have been asked what the World Cup has done for the Club’s revenues and that’s not a simple answer to give because the Club’s been doing better this year anyway but once we have our results for June and July in, probably next month some time, we’ll try and put some numbers up to give an idea.
There is other sport on over the weekend. Tonight England are busy losing to India in a one-day game right now and the John Deere Classic golf tournament starts tonight at 9pm. The golf will be on each evening this weekend.
On Saturday we start at Noon with a second England-India game but we will be switching over for the football at 3pm. And on Sunday we just have the World Cup Final on at 4pm.
Next week it’ll seem a bit strange because we’re now football-less, but we’ll have another one-day international on Tuesday and some 20/20 cricket before from Thursday we’ll be showing the Open.
For the footy lovers, we’ll keep an eye out for the occasional friendly that crops up over the next few weeks and try and let you know about them in good time. But basically this is the time to be on holiday. Until the football season starts again on August 3rd – that’s right, in three weeks.
