Community Shield BBQ

Well we’ve waited all of a month and at last we can bring you football again. This weekend we’ll be showing a pile of Championship action, the Community Shield match, England-India in the first test, European football (stop saying oooooo you at the back) and the Bridgestone Invitational golf.

Let’s start with Sunday afternoon because that’s what’s leading us to break out the barbie. This is the old Charity Shield game, which kicks off between Man City and Chelski at 3pm on BT.

The cricket will be on from Noon but will have to make way for the Community Shield at 3pm. We’ll be starting the barbie at 1.30/2pm, so make sure you get there nice and early to secure your meat-fix and your seat. The Charity Shield is followed at 4.30pm by Leeds-Stjoke on Sky in the Championship. That, of course, gives us problems because the Charity Shield game won’t end until well into the first half of the Leeds game. Banno if there are a lot of people watching the Charity shield match bear with us please, we’ll get your beloved Leeds on asap.

Our weekend starts tonight for those of us taking tomorrow off to go to Goodwood, 9.45 am meet at Downlands tomorrow by the way. And tonight we’re bringing you European football, with Burnley taking on Aberdeen in the second leg of their Europa Cup tie, currently locked at 1-1 after their first leg, which kicks off at 7.45 pm on BT. We’ll also have the Bridgestone Invitational golf on in the evenings from tonight through Sunday night.

Tomorrow night (Friday), we open at 4pm with the 1st test. Then at 8 pm we’re showing the first game of the Championship season and Sky have picked a humdinger to start in Reading vs Derby – yup, last season’s almost relegated against perennial chokers Derby – maybe they just needed a nothing game so they could make sure all the tech still works.

On Saturday we open again with the cricket, from Noon. If anybody asks for it, we can then show Sunderland-Charlton in League 1 on one of our screens while we will put the Saturday afternoon results service on one screen at 3pm. At 5.30pm we’ll show Sheffield United-Swansea on Sky, pitching one of the Championship’s better teams last season against one of the Prem’s worst and then after the football we’ll go to the golf.

That’s not the end of the weekend because on Monday evening we’ll bring you DHull-Villanil, pitching Miss Moneypenny against Matt Redmore. That kicks off at 7.45pm on Sky, with Matt and Julia kicking off shortly after, but you’ll need to be in the Club to see that.

Next week, we’ve got more Championship football, loads of 20/20 cricket, the second test and, on Friday night the return of Premiership football. We won’t spoil the anticipation by saying whose playing yet, but being the first TV game it’ll clearly involve a team in red based near the outskirts of Manchester.
