Coming up in the Club this week

We have some great events to look forward to at the Club over the next month or so. First of all, next weekend its our July quiz. Hosted by Scally, the quiz starts at 8.30pm and runs to closing time. It normally comprises six or seven short sets of questions, with cash prizes handed out after two and for rounds and at the end. The questions range from general knowledge to brain teasers and there’s normally something in there for everybody as well as the brainboxes. It costs £2 per person in teams of up to four and its usually a lot of fun for all that take part, so we’d love to see you in for that.

Then on Sunday July 29th, we’re breaking out the barbie again for charity. This time we’re supporting a charity stoolball event which is raising money for McMillan Cancer Support, in memory of Sita Allen who was a member of Adastra Ladies stoolball club and was a regular in the Club for many years before she passed on too early. All profits made by the barbie will go to the charity while there is also a raffle with some great prizes, a red letter day event worth £150, a £75 Wickwoods voucher and many more. Tickets are £1 a strip and can be purchased at the bar. And we’d love to see as many Club members as possible supporting this event by buying raffle tickets and eating the food on the day.

Then on Friday August 3rd, the Club is taking a coachload of members off to glorious Goodwood for the day. There is still a limited number of places available for this event and if you would like to join them please mail Paul Murrell on paulmurrell13@yahoo.com as soon as possible. We are offering a £35 ticket and a £50 ticket, the difference between the two being the grandstand you’ll be allowed in to. Also, if you have signed up for this trip and you haven’t paid yet please can you leave your payment in an envelope behind the bar.

Finally we have a Club golf day lined up on September 15th. We will be playing at Bletchingley, which is close to Godstone in Surrey. We meet for coffee and bacon rolls at 11am and the first tees will be at 12.10pm. After we all come back to the Club for a barbecue and BS session. The cost for the day will be £40, for members only, to include brekkie, the golf and prizes. If you would like to play please enter your name and handicap onto the form which will be placed on the foyer noticeboard from tomorrow evening.

And sport on TV next week? Well we have the tail-end of an England one-dayer against India from opening time at 5pm on Tuesday and 20/20 county cricket on most evenings but the highlight will be the Open from Carnoustie on Thursday afternoon. We’ll be showing all the Sky coverage we can and in the evenings we’ll have Sky’s highlights programme on from 9pm each evening except for Saturday.
