Hold your horses – it’s our Race Night this Saturday

We’ve got some great sport to look forward on our screens this week, with Premiership and Championship football, one day international cricket and golf on the way. But first let’s talk horses because we’ve got our first race night on in years, to raise money for St Peters & St James Hospice. We’ll be kicking off at about 8pm and, to get the fundraising going straight away, we’ll be asking for an entry fee of about £2 a person. There will be a string of races shown through the night and you’ll be able to bet on horses in each one, to buy and sell horses and a whole load of other things which we expect to keep you all entertained through the evening. This is an experiment and to continue with this sort of thing we’ll need to see as many of you in the Club as possible. If the night goes well, we’ll do it again and we’ll line up other stuff like it as well.\ We think it will be a lot of fun.

As for the sport coming up this week, we start tonight, with the third one day international against the WIndies already underway and, at 7.45pm, Forest-Derby on Sky Sports Leeds.

Tomorrow night we kick off with two 7.45pm games, with BT1 showing the Newcastle-Burnley Premiership match and, at the same time QPR-Leeds in the Champs on Sky Sports Leeds. Then on Wednesday we start at opening time with the fourth ODI but at 7.45pm we’ll be switching one set of screens to show Chelsea-Spurs and, if ewe have a crowd in, both sets.

Thursday brings us golf, with the Honda Classic starting in Sky Sports Golf – believe it of not Leeds United will not be featuring here. The golf will run at the same time through Sunday, although other stuff may take precedence at times.

Then on Friday night we open our weekend with, yes you’ve guessed it, Sky Sports Leeds, with Leeds-West Brom at 7.45pm.

Sadly, over the weekend we’re taking a break from the fireworks we saw in Saturday’s rugby so the football will have to step up to the plate. Let’s hope that Spurs-Arsenal, Fulham-Chelsea, Everton-Liverpool and the Steel City Derby give us a bit more entertainment than the 210-minute boreathon served up by Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City yesterday.
