The calm before the World Cup storm

We’re in for a quiet week in the Club this week, with televised sport thin on the ground. We were right about the cricket but for the wrong reasons. There isn’t any today or tomorrow because England only went and bloody won. There will be one day action involving England on the weekend and next week but that’s it.

What we can offer you this week is international football, with England taking on Costa Rica in their second World Cup warm up game on Thursday night. Following on from a surprisingly promising win over Nigeria, this game kicks off at 8pm and we’ll be serving you something comforting and fortifying if you fancy watching the game in company.

We’ll also have the St Jude Classic golf in the evenings from Thursday through Sunday, before we move on to a weekend of international rugby, cricket, Formula 1 and golf, of which more later.

Meanwhile, the World Cup finally gets going on Thursday week with Russia taking on Saudi Arabia. So those of you planning to enter our World Cup Tipster competition, in which you predict the scores and various other aspects of the games selected in each form, you have just over a week to get your first entry in. Entries need to be in by close of play on Thursday June 14th, with Portugal-Spain the first game on the sheet.

And for those of you that have asked, yes we will be doing a sweep on the World Cup, hopefully we’ll get that started before this weekend.
