World Cup football weekend

We’ve got loads to look forward to in the Club this weekend and, just for a change, we’re going to start off looking at Sunday because its a big day.

We’ll be running the barbecue from when we open at Noon until just before 1pm and then again from just after 2.45pm. Why the break? Well England kick off against Panama in their second World Cup game at 1pm, when a win will send them through to the knock-out rounds. We’ll be showing the lot in the Club and we’d love to see as many members in enjoying the game and the food as possible.

For those of you that do the Tipster football prediction competition, after the game Neil Janes, the competition’s organiser will be making the awards for the last Premiership season, so for those of you hoping to catch a glance of the lesser spotted Dan Chambers this could be your chance. For autofreaks, there’s the French Grands Prix on Sky at 3pm and there’ll be more World Cup football – Japan-Senegal at 4pm and Colombia-Poland at 7pm. At 5pm, the Club’s snooker and billiards finals day gets underway, so we ask those in the bar to be reasonably respectful of the finalists after 5pm and keep the noise down to civilised levels.

For the cricketers amongst us, we’ll try and show the England-Australia one-dayer when we can but as you can see its a pretty rammed schedule so please don’t get upset if we can’t show it when you’re in.

It’s not all about Sunday. Tonight we have Serbia-Switzerland kicking off at 7pm in the World Cup and on every evening we’ll be showing the Travellers Championships golf on at least one screen when the football’s over – Vince.

On Saturday we start at 1pm with Belgium-Tunisia in England’s group and then at 4pm we’ll put one screen onto the South Korea-Mexico World Cup match. The other screen will be given over to the South Africa-England rugby match, which will be on Sky at 4.05pm. That’s not the end of Saturday because at 7pm we’ll be showing Germany-Sweden, a must-win for the Germans, and then later the golf.

Next week we’ll have a ful programme of World Cup football, including England’s big game against Belgium at 7pm next Thursday, plus a little bit of cricket.
