Thanks to all our brilliant May Day volunteers

Many thanks to everyone who pitched in to help with our open day yesterday. It was bloody hard work but it was a fantastic success and we’re all very pleased. We can’t really say how much we earned yesterday yet, how many new members we generated or how much we raised for charity because we’re still counting and assessing, but we know the Club did very well, the ale sold out in the beer festival and we raised at least £500 from the barbie for charity. So thanks very much to those members who helped distribute our leaflets around the village, to Pete Andrews for arranging them at such short notice, to the people who helped our membership secretary Tim Jackson with new member recruitment and to all the poor sods who slaved away on the barbies and on preparing the food for it. Well done to everyone who supported the Club on the day.

Moving to the week ahead in the Club, tonight to Thursday night we’re showing European football. At 8pm this evening we’re showing Liverpool’s attempt to overcome a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League. You can also watch Sussex-Glamorgan if you ask at the bar, with Sussex defending a pretty good 348.

Tomorrow our Champions League action will be in Amsterdam, when Spurs try to recover a 1-0 deficit from Ajax without Harry Kane but with a returned Son. There’ll also by England-Pakistan in a one-dayer from opening time onwards.

On Thursday we’re showing Europa League matches, with Chelsea trying to add to a 1-1 score at home to Eintracht Frankfurt and Arsenal defending a 3-1 lead at Valencia. We’ll also have the Byron Nelson golf starting after the football and running through to Sunday night.

On Friday evening at 7pm we’ll be staging a defibrillator training session for those of you that are a bit unsure about using the machine – with Banno among those who are confident about using the defib we’re keen to reduce our chances of being given the kiss of life by him by getting as many of you as possible feeling that you will be able to help should the worst happen. Our sport starts when we open with the British Masters on Sky Sports Golf. Then at 7.45 we’re showing a League Two play off game at 7.45pm. Tranmere-Forest Green will be just the thing to kick off our weekend.

That leads us into a weekend that will be packed with sporting entertainment, with the final day of the Premiership at 3pm on Sunday – Sky have already let it be known that the top two’s games will be on, so we’ll split the screens to show both. There’ll also be football league play offs going on through the weekend, with the Redmore family most interested on Saturday lunchtime and the Ellises on Saturday afternoon.
